Kuala Lumpur (15th Dec 06) – Bristol took the bold move of hosting artist Ungku Farrah

Rahman’s art collection in response to the Minister of Culture, Art and Heritage’s call for corporate companies to support local artists, at its show gallery in Seri Kembangan.

Entitled The Work of Art, the Art of Work, the event previewed the newly launched COMO desking system

and masterpieces of art from the locally acclaimed female artist.

What does fine art have to do with premium office furniture? On the surface, not a whole lot, but the two went hand-in-hand today in an art exhibition which became an innovative way for an established office furniture manufacturer to help the artist gain more exposure in the corporate arena. With artists working hard to find opportunities to display their work, this is a unique platform for the professional artist to showcase her talents in a setting like never before.

So how did the manufacturer come up with the inspiration to pair fine art with premium office furniture? Bristol’s managing director Mr. Yong Yook Seng answered this very question when he addressed

200-strong guests of KL’s designers’ network and corporate clients before the art exhibition took the limelight that Friday evening.

“On the surface they are unrelated”, said Yong, “but for Bristol, everything we do revolves around trend watching and producing creative offices for modern organisations.

“Organising this art exhibition is a way of communicating the uniqueness of COMO, just like the unique

one-of-a-kind art pieces that you will witness this evening.”

“In giving emphasis to this uniqueness, COMO will thus stand out from the crowd, just like the paintings which offer quality and fine craftsmanship,” added Yong.

In what may very well be the first of such events by an office furniture manufacturer in the country, 20 paintings were displayed in the Bristol Gallery.

Later that evening, Yong gave away some attractive prizes for the lucky draw namely a COMO Air chair

and COMO Meeting Table sponsored by Bristol.
